Geyer Signal, contractors, Mn/DOT staff earn award
BAXTER, Minn. - The Minnesota Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists
presented Anderson Brothers, Brainerd; Geyer Signal, St.
Cloud; and Mn/DOT District 3 with a Work Zone Safety Award
for their excellent communication with area businesses during the
Highway 210 reconstruction project in Baxter/Brainerd.
The award was one of several presented to contractors and Mn/DOT
construction staff in the Metro, Bemidji, Brainerd and Willmar districts
for their innovation and commitment to the safety of highway workers.
All of the awards were presented at the group's annual conference,
held Dec. 2, 2003, in St. Paul.
The award, in the static, high-traffic volume category, cited the
excellent communication with businesses along the Highway 210 commercial
strip in Baxter and Brainerd. Specifically, district staff set up
detours that provided access to local businesses and help traffic
movement on the mainline highway. Mn/DOT project officials and the
contractor responded quickly to problems that developed and maintained
good coordination with local agencies on detours, signal activation,
and the use of haul roads.
"Safety for the workers and the traveling public is always
our top concern," said Bob Busch, District 3 Transportation
District Engineer. "This award recognizes the high-degree of
professionalism and excellent communication demonstrated by the
project team to enhance safety while attempting to minimize the
impacts of construction on the businesses and the traveling public,"
noted Busch.
Anderson Brothers served as the prime contractor; Geyer
Signal provided traffic control services. Mn/DOT staff
honored were: Kevin Kosobud, resident engineer; Jamie Hukreide,
project manager; Joe Cameron, chief inspector; and Dave Buss, work
zone safety coordinator.
